The 19th session of the Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies (APHoMSA) forum was convened from 10-12 April 2018 in Vina del Mar, Chile. Mr.S.Tuvshintur, Director of Mongolia Maritime Administration, and the Mr.B.Nyamdavaa senior officer of Foreign Cooperation Division, State Administration and Management Department, Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia successfully participated in the session.
During the 19th session, the representatives from 18 member states and 5 observers have discussed and exchanged opinions on the issues regarding the maritime safety of Asia-Pacific region. Therefore, Members approved Mongolia Maritime Administration’s application for membership of APHOMSA as well as agreed to the 2018 Work Plan which was tabled in support of the APHOMSA Strategy 2014-2020.
The Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies forum was created as an informal entity on 1 May 1996. At the 14th session of APHoMSA, held in Cairns in 2014, it was agreed APHoMSA would have a defined membership and agreed strategy to address maritime issues of regional importance.
APHoMSA’s work is built around four pillars:
-Regional Cooperation
-Protecting the Marine Environment
-Safety at Sea, Including Seafarer Welfare
-Maritime Incident Response.
APHoMSA currently has 26 Members and eight Standing Observer organizations.
