Ulaanbaatar, [2024.12.02] – A specialized training program on “Registration, Control and Enforcement of Flag State Ships” commenced today at the Puma Imperial, led by international experts from the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The intensive five-day training is attended by 30 officials from key Mongolian government agencies, including the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and the Mongolian Maritime Administration.
The training aims to enhance Mongolia’s capacity to effectively implement international maritime conventions and regulations, particularly those related to flag state responsibilities. By strengthening the nation’s maritime governance, the training is expected to contribute to improved maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
Ms. Birgit Solling Olsen, an Advisor to the IMO, and Mr. Gahin Yalsin, a renowned maritime expert, are leading the training sessions. The program covers a wide range of topics, including:
International maritime law and conventions
Flag state responsibilities and obligations
Port State Control
Maritime security and anti-piracy measures
Maritime environmental protection
By equipping Mongolian officials with the necessary knowledge and skills, the IMO training will empower the country to play a more active and responsible role in the global maritime community.
