As part of its efforts to strengthen its participation in the regional maritime sector, in 2018, the Mongolia Maritime Administration (MMA) has become a member of the Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies (APHoMSA) which is one of the key and influential international community in the region and headquartered in the Commonwealth of Australia. During the 20th session held in Seoul, Republic of Korea in 2019, the members agreed on Mongolia’s offer to host the 23rd session of APHoMSA in 2023.
Accordingly, MMA hold an official meeting with delegations from Australian embassy in order to discuss about the collaborative host of 23rd APHomSA with the Australian Maritime Safety Administration (AMSA) which is planned to be held in Sydney, Commonwealth of Australia, from June 5th to 9th, 2023.
The meeting were attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Mongolia, Mrs. Katie Smith and other delegations from two organizations.
During the meeting MMA has presented an introduction on policy and operations of Mongolia in maritime sector, mentioning the importance of cooperating with the Commonwealth of Australia is a significant matter to Mongolia for the successful fulfillment of its flag state obligation, expressing its willingness to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the AMSA during the upcoming APHoMSA session, and handed over the draft of the MOU.
The Ambassador praised Mongolia's successful operations in the maritime sector, despite being a landlocked country, and expressed that she would pay attention to and support the expansion of cooperation in the maritime sector of the two countries in the future.
